• communicate, heal, connect

    Megan McCormack, LPC, ESMHL

As we navigate the stories of our lives, we work to create joyful, authentic versions of ourselves. When we experience pain, trauma, and disconnection we lose sight of that vision often leading us to feel hopeless, misunderstood and alone. This experience often evolves into a negative cycle that we remain stuck in with ourselves and the people we love. It’s my honor to serve as a guide for those working to break these patterns and establish a healthier view of self.

As an EMDR trained therapist I offer treatment plans that have a structured foundation yet are flexible in detail, integrating a variety of modalities specifically targeted to establish a mind-body connection. Ego state work, specifically Structural Dissociation Theory provides my clients with the opportunity to feel whole again. I strongly believe that modeling secure attachment through the therapeutic relationship is at the core for every client success story. My hope is to connect with my clients in a way that empowers them to re-connect with themselves.

I love working with individual clients, but there is no greater joy than witnessing new bonds forming between a couple previously suffering from deep disconnection. My advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy serves as the foundational treatment model in my work with couples. I know how important it is to feel seen by your therapist and within the couples counseling setting this can easily feel threatened. My approach is one that balances the needs of both parties so that neither of you feel left in the dark.

As a certified equine specialist, I am an advocate for enhancing the therapeutic process through experiential settings. Connecting with nature opens doors and breaks down emotional walls more quickly than the traditional office. Getting out on beach for a sunset walk or interacting with the horses at the Pungo office offers my clients grounding experiences that are indescribable.

My clinical background in substance abuse, years spent working in a psychiatric hospital, and my former role as program director for a military based mental health non-profit contributed to my therapeutic style today. Clients know to expect a compassionate and direct approach that offers both validation and accountability. There is nothing more rewarding to me than seeing my clients achieve their goals and realize that the progress they have been yearning to make was achievable all along.
